Important! Chimney Rain Caps! Set of 2, 8” X8” black, slip-in chimney rain cap covers with rodent/leaf screens. They look great! Don’t learn the hard way (Like I did!) Get a chimney rain cover to protect your house! News Flash to homeowners!! “It rains A LOT in Victoria!!” If you have no rain cap cover over your house chimney stacks, water will get in and sit on your flat chimney smoke shelf (located above the damper) or soak into the mortar, and freeze/thaw can crack your chimney open! The mortar pieces fall out exposing the wood of your house to the fire going up your chimney that can lead not just to a chimney fire but an actual house fire! A complete chimney removal and rebuild is the only remedy. (about $10,000!!) The mesh screen also keeps out birds, nests, wasps, rats, and any leaf or tree debris. I don’t use my chimney so I never even thought about it. Also, the water can get in and corrode your furnace and ducts and breed mildew and mold. I have 2 extra because I bought the wrong size, ( I know,I know, duh! ) mine are 8” X 12” as it turns out, they are no longer sold where I bought them except by internet so I can’t return them. These are 8” X 8” and just slip down inside your existing square clay chimney flue. Easy as can be, takes seconds for peace of mind and protection. These are hard to find after COVID-19 shortages and look great. These black wrought iron covers look much better than either the heavy grey clay pot or the shiny tin-covered one style (IMO) and those go for up to $175 each. These are $90 each or $175 for both So you are saving both taxes and shipping as well. Take a look around your neighborhood and see how many people have ugly chimney covers or even none at all! These will improve the look of your home as well and I think even increase value and avoid a home inspector finding one more thing wrong to help the buyer grind down your asking price. If you are elderly and can’t put them on yourself, if you have a decent ladder my son will climb up and do the install for you for free. Thanks!!
