Gelato Producer - 2nd cook - Gelato Kitchen

The Butchart Gardens is looking for an individual to fill the following position: The Food Services Department requires a 2nd Cook to work in the Gelato Kitchen. The Gelato Kitchen is a fast-paced, high-volume operation that produces high quality gelatos and sorbettos for the Gelateria. The Successful candidate will report to the Pastry Chef and will be required to: • Maintain high standards and production quantities • Accurately measure and scale a variety of ingredients by following different recipes • Produce gelato and sorbettos in a high-volume kitchen • Transfer all gelato tubs from the Gelato Kitchen to the Gelateria Storage Freezer • Compile stock lists • Maintain inventory counts and awareness of stock amounts • Daily Gelato room and machine cleaning • Lift up to 45lbs repeatedly throughout a shift • Work primarily independently in a fast-paced, compact kitchen • Required to assist in other areas of the Pastry Department as directed by the Pastry Chef as needed • Be able to work weekend shifts as needed The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications: • Strong organizational skills and work ethic • Proficient with numbers and basic calculations for estimating production requirements • Excellent communications skills • Positive and caring approach to all staff • Ability to work well under high volume production pressures • Ability to work well in both a solo and team environment • Basic kitchen skills/knowledge an asset • Food Safe Certification This is a seasonal full-time position through November 30th with the possibility of extension. The scheduling expectation is 40 hours per week, plus overtime if required. The scheduled hours will be 7:00am – 3:30pm. Remuneration will be commensurate with the level of responsibility and the qualifications of the candidate. Starting from $20.83/hour.
