Starting a housing Co-operative - A meeting for enquiry, interest and discussion

Renting housing in Victoria is expensive. Buying housing in Victoria is even more expensive than renting. Co-operative housing is the alternative. Except, anyone who's in a co-op right now knows that co-op housing is much cheaper than most anything in the rental market right now. As such, from what I've seen, most co-ops aren't even taking names for a waiting list because no one is leaving them. Similarly, some of my friends are stuck in small rentals that they managed to lease before things got crazy here and now they are stuck there as the only thing they can now afford. We need to create more options! With a background in finance and in creating and operating businesses, I see the benefit from residing in a co-op from the standpoint of the money saved, alone, is significant, so much so that I think that the upfront work in building co-op housing with a team of like-minded individuals could be the superior choice if ones mind is set on growing wealth. From what I have researched so far, making co-op housing, like starting an growing any business is not insurmountable, but more a marathon. Moreover, it may not require significant upfront capital.
