Part Time Victoria Area

Community Coordinator

Downtown Victoria is a busy and vibrant place, which makes it occasionally difficult for a small team to take part in all the opportunities that arise. We are looking for a self-directed, outgoing, individual who would be able to help close those gaps. As the Community Coordinator, you would: arrange small-scale events to build community amongst local businesses, organize a Downtown Victoria presence at larger events, work to support and encourage our Precinct program, and oversee our Good Neighbour Program. You would be a point of contact for business owners, building connections on behalf of the DVBA. Are you looking for something different? If you think you’d enjoy working with a business-led, non-profit association that’s comprised of a small team of high-performing, professional, friendly colleagues who are passionate about all things downtown Victoria, then this role is for you! Background: The DVBA has over 2,000 members within our boundaries, and although we attempt to respond to all their needs, we do not currently have enough staff to proactively reach out, identify needs, or anticipate problems. The Community Coordinator will be largely responsible for member engagement and will work to raise the DVBA’s presence at community events. Areas of responsibility: • Help to keep the DVBA connected through outreach, events, and responding to individual requests; • Help identify challenges facing downtown businesses and suggest strategies to mitigate these challenges; • Organize a Downtown Victoria presence at community events such as Victoria Pride, so that small businesses can participate more easily in these large events; • Coordinate single-block or neighbourhood events, either for businesses alone or for businesspeople and local residents to socialize; • Join some select committees to work with other membership organizations (such as Destination Greater Victoria or the Chamber of Commerce) on shared goals; • Engage with businesses already taking part in our precinct program (https://downtownvictoria.ca/downtownvictoria.ca/uploads/2022/01/Downtown-Districts.pdf) and encourage other businesses to cooperate in ‘branding’ their neighbourhood; • Run and grow our Good Neighbour Program; • Update our online directory of businesses with new information you receive. To be successful in this role, you are: • Well-organized and outstanding at managing your own time • A strong communicator • Energetic, willing to learn, a team player, and not afraid to ask questions • Resourceful, and someone who likes to solve problems Please submit your (no more than two page) resume and SHORT cover letter that tells us what you know about the DVBA and why you’d be our ideal hire to: info@downtownvictoria.ca The fine print: This position will initially be a part-time one (15 - 20 hours/week), though this may be altered with both parties’ consent as the job develops. Flexible schedule, though some evening/weekend work may be necessary. We pay bi-weekly by direct deposit. Salary: $30/hour This competition closes: August 31, 2022 Anticipated start date: Mid September Please note only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
