Compensation: $23 to $26.50 per hour commensurate with experience, 0.6 FTE (part time) Habitat Acquisition Trust (HAT) is a Victoria-based land trust working with our community to protect habitat within the Capital Regional District (CRD). HAT works and stewards ecosystems as visitors in the traditional and unceded territories of the L'kwungen, W̱SÁNEĆ, SC’IȺNEW, and T'Sou-ke Nations, Nations who have lived in relationship with and stewarded these lands since time immemorial and continue to live in relationship to the Land today. Our mission is to conserve natural spaces on southern Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands through land acquisition, legal protection of private land, restoration, education, and stewardship programs. We work closely with community groups, government, individual landowners, and indigenous communities to coordinate effective habitat conservation projects. Program Area Overview: HAT Protected Lands Program helps to protect and conserve natural environments through negotiating land acquisition, conservation covenants, and other forms of protected areas, by monitoring existing legal land protection agreements, and collaborating with partners and nations to ensure the ecological integrity of habitats is conserved. Position Overview: Reporting to the Executive Director and working in close consultation with HAT Operations staff and Board of Directors, the Land Protection Coordinator’s role is to plan, organize, implement and evaluate land protection projects consistent with HAT’s vision, mission and values.
