Disability Awareness Trainer - Contract

Submission end date: January 4, 2019 at 4:00 pm The VDRC is looking to hire a training consultant that will develop disability awareness training for employers. The successful candidate will have office space and access to a computer, phone, printer, fax, and other office amenities. Duties and Responsibilities: * Identify and recruit persons with disabilities, the business community, educational institutions, and community members to conduct community consultations; * Design, develop, and implement a training manual to address systemic barriers that persons with disabilities face; * Establish partnerships with employers, businesses, advisory committee members, citizens of the community, politicians, government representatives, learning institutions, chamber of commerce, community council, disability organizations, and service providers; and * Evaluate the project using sound Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodologies with an Appreciative Inquiry approach which includes both quantitative and qualitative measures. Qualifications: * Experience addressing disability and employment issues * Be familiar with the Independent Living philosophy and approach to disability services * Knowledge of the Victoria Disability Resource Centre's role in the community * Experience working with people with disabilities * Knowledge of services and programs available in the Greater Victoria region * Experience in developing, organizing and delivering community consultations and seminars * Strong interpersonal skills * Professional, effective oral and written communication skills * Able to develop and sustain cooperative, positive working relationships as part of a team * Adapt to new ideas and constant changes; extremely punctual and reliable * Fluent in person-first, positive language * Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite of Applications Please note - This is a contract position - $20,800 over 52 weeks (based on a 20 hour work week) No benefits/No vacation pay See website listed for full job posting.
