This is a group of 40 Magic Lantern glass slides in their original wooden box, all dating from the First World War. In 1915 London-based W. Butcher & Sons Ltd produced a set of 80 Lantern Slides called “The World War” as part of their Primus Lantern Lecture series. The slides were divided into ten chapters of 8 coloured slides and accompanying lecture notes. The illustrations were created by some of the period’s top war artists and some featured in magazines such as The Graphic and The Sphere. I've included scans of four of the 40 slides contained in this box: * "Highland Pipers playing the Canadian Scottish into Ypres" * "How the Canadians kept up the supply of bombs" * "Soldiers in a convoy" * "A Call to Arms" (the title slide) All 40 slides are in very good condition. The box shows nearly 110 years of patina but the hinges are in excellent condition and one of the two hooks can be used to latch the lid closed. If you are interested in this item I can provide you with scans of all 40 slides as well as additional information, including copies of the original lecture notes.
