Position:Skidder Operator -Yunesit’in Development Enterprise (YDE) Classification:Full-time, Permanent position. 40 hours per week Salary:$17.00 per hour wage, plus $16.00 per cubic meter, shared between the crew Location:20 minutes South of Yunesit’in, Hanceville BC- 1 hour and 30 minutes from Williams Lake, BC Closing Date: Until Filled The Yunesit’in Development Enterprise (YDE) is currently seeking experiencedSkidder Operator.The candidate will be responsible for operating a cable or grapple skidder to move or yard felled trees. The skidder will be provided. The YDE was developed after the 2017 Wildfires and carries out many economic activities, including local contracts, fire crews, fencing, silviculture, and forest harvesting. The Yunesit’in Nation is a First Nations community located West of Williams Lake. They are a part of the Tsilhqot’in Nation, which is made up of six communities that share a common language and culture. The Yunesit’in Nation continues to assert their rights and protect their land. They are actively involved in resource management decisions that affect their territory, striving to maintain a balance between economic development and environmental sustainability. Preference will be given to those of Aboriginal Ancestry- Section 16(1)Canadian Human Rights Act. Key Responsibilities * Use axes or chainsaws to fall, delimb, and buck trees using knowledge of tree characteristics and cutting techniques to control direction of fall and minimize tree damage; * Maintain and repair chainsaws and other equipment, cleaning, oiling and greasing equipment, and sharpening equipment properly; * Operate skidder to move or yard the felled trees from the logging site to the landing area for processing and transportation; * Maintain logs of daily work activities, including cubic metres completed; * May rotate between chain saw operation and skidder operation; * Use proper falling techniques; * Operate the skidder to move logs using a grapple hook; * Operate heavy machinery to clear brush and debris; * Appraise trees for certain characteristics, such as twists, rot, heavy limbs, and gauges amount and direction of lean, in order to determine how to control the direction of the tree’s fall; * Ensure productivity, while ensuring safety; * Clear brush from work areas and escape routes; * Buck fallen trees into logs according to industry standards; * May be required to operate a skidder to pull down lodged trees during the felling process; * Manage and own the accountability of securing all work zones, this includes: safeguarding infrastructures, shielding equipment and other activities to protect property and crew members; * Ensure proper maintenance, preparation, supplies and operations of all tools and equipment being used;Other duties as assigned. Preferred Requirements * BCFSC New Faller Training. * Faller Certification. * Heavy equipment operator course. * Previous experience running heavy equipment. * Previous logging experience. * Knowledge of Forestry and Silviculture. * Minimum Grade 12. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills; and the ability to build strong relationships with community members. * Ability to work independently and as a team. * Level 1 First Aid. * Clear driving record and a Valid BC driver’s license.Working Conditions * Travel will be required. * Overtime as required. * All types of weather. * Frequent sitting. * Lifting or moving up to 50lbs may be required.To apply, please submit your resume to: Brittany Hutchins Human Resource Manager Yunesit’in Government Email: bhutchins@yunesitin.ca Only those invited to interview will be contacted.
