Russian Bogatyr garlic is rare, only having been available outside Russia recently. It has the most flavour by far, making them an excellent value by weight since less is needed in recipes. I get the same flavour using only 1/3 of what I would normally use with Russian Reds. Price is $14 per lb. Russian Red garlic, the more popular garlic on the island, it is milder than Bogatyr or Mexican. The bulbs are usually larger up to 3 inches in diameter. Price is $12 per lb. Mexican Purple Stripe. Also one of the strongest flavoured garlics. It is the most popular garlic in Latin American countries and the U.S., gaining popularity here. It has been described as having a mild heat which personally I haven’t noticed, but then I am eat whole jalapeno peppers. This is my favourite garlic and because of it’s stronger flavour, it is a great value at $14 per lb. We can provide heads for eating and storage or cloves for planting or some combination of both. All the garlic was locally grown in Central Saanich, pesticide and herbicide free. Here on the south island, October-November is a great time to plant.
