Deer resistant, cold resistant, Ideal for Tropical and/or Mediterranean gardens Poncirus trifoliata 'Flying Dragon' is an in-ground hardy dwarf citrus tree that produces small sour oranges. The deciduous tree has contorted, thorned limbs that, where bare, are reminiscent of Dragons in flight. The trees grow to a height of eight feet and has fragrant white flowers in the spring. The small citrus fruit ripens in the fall, about the time that leaves fall. Originating in Asia, this tree is widely cultivated, including commercial plantations in Germany where the rind is used for making Marmalade. The juice is used in cooking and drinks. This citrus tree was widely used at one time for rootstock for Navel Oranges in California as it imparted much better cold resistance to the tree. The contorted, thorned branches make for a sturdy barrier hedge. Flying Dragon Japanese Bitter Orange features showy clusters of lightly-scented white star-shaped flowers at the ends of the branches in early spring before the leaves. The fruits are showy orange pomes carried in abundance in mid-summer. It has dark green foliage which emerges light green in spring. The glossy oval compound leaves turn gold in fall. This shrub does best in full sun to partial shade. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. This is a very cool plant! The plant grows six to eight feet tall and wide. It prefers average watering, and should not be allowed to dry out. Plant in full sun to partial shade. 5-gallon = $110 Will hold with eTransfer Located south of Cowichan Bay, and just around the corner from the Cherry Point Winery. Contact us for address.
