Overview The City of Victoria is looking for enthusiastic and experienced skating instructors to deliver skating lessons at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Skating Instructors are contract positions and are not City of Victoria Employees. Key Roles and Responsibilities • Instruct children (ages 3 – 12 yrs.) of varying abilities and levels the required skating skills outlined in the Learn to Skate Program; • Prepare lesson plans for a variety of skill levels; • Working cooperatively with other instructors in a group setting; • Set up/take down ice and equipment for lessons; • Communicate with parents/caregivers on child’s progress; • Assess children’s skating skills and complete skill cards after each lesson; • Perform other duties as required Qualifications and Experience • Greater Victoria Active Community Instructor Training (GVAC) course or equivalent experience; • Strong skating skills with either a hockey or figure skating background; • Experience teaching children in an instructional environment is required; • Current Criminal Record Check (within 6 months); • Emergency First Aid with CPR-C Compensation: $22.14/hour. (Please note this is a non-union position) Hours of work: Tuesdays 4- 7 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Closing date: Open until filled
