Grand Opening - Second Hand Hope

Soap for Hope Canada has recently piloted a new program: Second Hand Hope. Second Hand Hope is a charitable thrift store located in Esquimalt. Thus far, we have been operating primarily online, encouraging customers to book 30, 45, or 60-minute personal shopping appointments, but as BC enters stage 2 of its re-opening plan, we are looking forward to hosting an in-person Grand Opening. The event will be held between 11am and 4pm at 444 William St with masks required and COVID safety protocols in place. Not only will people be able to browse through our hundreds of items and learn about Soap for Hope Canada from our staff, but there will also be local artisans selling their own creations to compliment any thrift store finds. The artisans and educational tables will be located outside and staff will be monitoring the capacity of customers entering the indoor thrift store. Second Hand Hope started on January 1st as an online retailer, but on May 1st due to recent funding, Second Hand Hope moved into a brick and mortar location two doors down from the Soap for Hope Canada headquarters. Second Hand Hope boasts three main pillars of impact: environmental, fundraising and small business support. Second Hand Hope’s inventory comes from their Caring Community Partner hotel’s lost and found and gives new life to items that would have ended up in the landfill. All Second Hand Hope’s profits are donated directly back to Soap for Hope Canada, helping them to provide over 300 community facilities and remote communities around BC and Alberta with essential hygiene supplies. Lastly, Second Hand Hope recognizes the importance of supporting small businesses and focuses on collaborations with local artisans, specifically youth. As BC enters stage 3 of the reopening plan, we plan on hosting crafting classes where the public can sign up to learn how to upcycle their own pieces.
