Victoria’s favourite shaving and hobby shop celebrates grand opening in new location!

Join the celebrations and save Aug. 16 to 18

When Brendan Heath was looking for a career change after a work injury, a chance conversation at a shop he’d visited often since childhood sparked an idea. Hearing that the former owner, after years on Fort Street, was eyeing retirement, and BC Shaver & Hobbies was for sale, “he casually said to me, ‘You should buy it,’” Heath recalls.

And so he did!

Now, with brand new digs at Hillside Mall, grand opening celebrations are coming up Aug. 16 to 18, with door prizes, door crasher deals and giveaways, plus the launch of BC Shaver & Hobbies’ new loyalty program, with DOUBLE rewards all weekend!

And for all those Traxxas RC fans, you’ll find all on sale, too.

But first, a little history…

Founded 67 years ago as a shaver shop, in the 1960s, BC Shaver began bringing models in to the store as well, Heath says. Over the years, the shop added R/C cars, boats and planes, and assorted parts, trains and train sets, diecast cars, rockets and kites and more!

Throughout its evolution, BC Shaver & Hobbies was always a family business and local families responded.

“It’s just a fantastic place to work – I love chatting with the customers and I love to see the kids’ wonderment when they come in,” says Heath, who with wife Rebecca has three young children at home to share the fun with.

It was with those families in mind that it was time to look for a more central location.

While the store had welcomed longtime clients for many years on Fort Street, it was missing the family business Heath wanted, to bring BC Shaver & Hobbies into the next generation.

“Hillside Mall offered a pretty perfect space, easily accessible to families and hobbyists alike,” he says.

The new shop, staffed by many of the familiar folks who have worked behind the counter for years, offers 2,500-square feet to showcase not only the quality electric shavers, trimmers and safety razors they’ve long been known for, but an exciting array of games, wooden puzzle kits and hobby activities.

Among the new additions is sought-after, specialized Lego – a personal favourite of Heath’s.

“We’re the new version of the Shaver & Hobby shop – we’re a family-friendly place with lots in store. Come check us out!”

A few more things you might NOT know about BC Shaver & Hobbies:

  • They not only sell shavers, trimmers and safety razors – a much more affordable and sustainable alternative to disposables – they also offer repair services too!
  • You’ll also find quality products like DeFitch safety razors, and some locally produced selections like high-quality handmade shave soaps from Steele and Co. “They’re some of the best I’ve ever used,” Heath says
