Bike to Work Week Neighbourhood Rides Program – May-August 2020
The Neighbourhood Rides Program The Neighbourhood Rides program consists of three parts: a Scavenger Hunt, a Discovery Ride, and a Ride-theDistance challenge. The Scavenger Hunt has up to 15 riddles to solve per neighbourhood; the Discovery Ride takes you on a guided ride that reveals the neighbourhood’s remarkable, and often, hidden features. Ride-theDistance is 1-4 hour rides curated by expert cyclists to show you the very best of Greater Victoria. Every two weeks, we will be releasing two new Scavenger Hunts, two new Discovery Rides, and one new Ride-theDistance ride for new neighbourhoods. By the end of August, there will be Scavenger Hunts and Discovery Rides for 16 different neighbourhoods across the region.
In addition to the activities, participants can also submit their stories online – to not only share their experiences, but also win gift certificates to local restaurants and bike shops. The GVCC has selected businesses from each featured neighbourhood to help support them during these tough times. Participants have a 2-week window to submit their photos, videos, or stories to win prizes.

Bike to Work Week Online Bike Skills Program – May-August 2020
Programs for Summer 2020
In collaboration with the Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition, the Bike to Work Society is excited to be launching two new online programs this summer (May to August 2020) for residents across the Greater Victoria region. These two programs are the new Online Bike Skills curriculum, as well as a Neighbourhood Rides Program. Together, we hope these new programs will offer tools for people to get outside and stay active while also respecting physical distancing.
Online Bike Skills
The new Online Bike Skills curriculum is our way to translate the Bike Skills in-person cycling courses into online content. The online curriculum consists of three components: Webinar Workshops, and Cycling Resource Library, and a Tip Clip Series. Webinars will cover topics such as basic bike maintenance, proper bike fit, tricky intersections, and family cycling. Tip Clips will offer practical tips such as securely locking your bike, a pre-ride bike safety check-up, and changing a tire or tube. The Cycling Resource Library is a collection of the best videos, articles, and information about cycling – based on the most popular topics from cycling courses.
Our hope is that we’re able to answer common questions, build people’s confidence, all while committing to keep cycling education accessible so that folks can keep riding even after COVID-19. All the new online Bike Skills content is free or available as “pay-what-you-can.”

Imagine navigating a cancer diagnosis in the midst of a pandemic
The world may be facing a public health crisis, but our phones haven’t stopped ringing. Every day, we hear from Vancouver Island men and their families who are coping with a prostate cancer diagnosis — and the additional stress of a pandemic. We need the support of our community more than ever
During this crisis, we’re committed to being here for the 1 in 9 men diagnosed with prostate cancer and their families — but it’s not easy. We are a small team doing vital work at a precarious moment. Now, we’re relying on the generosity of our community to help see us through. Please consider donating here.
Help Fill a Dream Box of Goodness Campaign
Help Fill A Dream will be delivering a Box of Goodness weekly to families across Vancouver Island who have been identified as most at need during the pandemic. They know that families with critically ill children have been left especially vulnerable by the outbreak of Covid-19. Getting out to buy groceries has been challenging for everyone; add to that the additional concern if you have someone in your family who is immuno-compromised, or otherwise in ill health. They are also aware that many families who may have been struggling already have had financial burdens added due to job losses.
Nutritious food is the foundation for good health. Every family deserves to be able to eat well. With your donation, you can play a part in feeding the extended Help Fill A Dream Family, because food + family = love.
Help Fill A Dream is calling on the community to help. Long time supporters The Hyatt Family Foundation has offered to match donations up to a total of $15,000. Every $25 donation for one food box for a family, will turn into two boxes thanks to the matching donation pledge. https://www.helpfilladream.com/food-box-campaign/

Victoria Cool Aid Society Homecoming Matching Challenge and Show
Cool Aid’s premier fundraiser, the Homecoming Gala, has been cancelled due to COVID-19. Concerned that Cool Aid’s clients would be left behind during the pandemic, our generous event sponsors and donors have banded together to create a $50,000 matching challenge! This funding will go a long way to ensuring that Cool Aid can continue providing critical programs like health and dental care, compassionate support and food security for people who are vulnerable. Your donation will be matched from now until June 28th.
You can also support people in need by shopping for some fabulous items donated by generous local businesses. 100% of the proceeds will support Cool Aid.
On Saturday June 27th at 7:00 pm join us for the Homecoming Show – a live concert by award winning Canadian musician Calum Graham, who will be performing on Facebook Live with proceeds supporting Cool Aid. These donations will also be matched!
Off the Eaten Track Craft Online Culinary Experiences – June 2020
With the postponement of many popular dining events such as Culinaire, Meat & Cheese Festival and YYJ Eats, Victoria foodies are looking for new and unique ways to experience local cuisine. Off The Eaten Track is launching a series of online culinary experiences that combine a food and drinks pairing package with an online tasting, led by a local expert.
“I miss going to the amazing foodie events that celebrate our city’s passion for all things culinary” said Bonnie Todd, owner of Off The Eaten Track, a local food tour company that has had to pivot their walking tour business due to Covid-19 restrictions and the recent significant drop in tourists.
Todd has partnered with two local experts to create the new online events. Joe Wiebe, author of Craft Beer Revolution: The Insider’s Guide to B.C. Breweries and co-founder of Victoria Craft Beer Week, will lead the Craft Beer & Food Pairing Experience taking place online June 17 and June 26. Local sommelier and wine representative Dan Stiefvater will lead the BC Wine & Asian Cuisine Tasting Experience on June 19 and June 25.
How does it work? Once tickets to the event have been purchased through the website the curated food and beverage package is delivered on the day of the event. Guests are then sent a link to join a private Zoom meeting later in the evening when the local expert will lead the group through the tasting. Only 25 tickets per event are sold so the experience is intimate and interactive.
The Craft Beer & Food Pairing hosted by Joe will contain four BC craft beers paired with four local dishes including a pretzel from The Bikery, cheese from Choux Choux Charcuterie, a savoury hand-pie from Victoria Pie Co, and chocolate from Sirene. The BC Wine & Asian Cuisine Tasting hosted by Dan will feature three wines from Haywire Winery paired with three Asian dishes including ramen from Bao Victoria, a Bahn Mi sandwich from BaLe, and a sushi roll from Nuba Japanese Tapas.
More information and tickets can be found on the website at https://offtheeatentracktours.
Virtual Victoria Pride Week – June 28 to July 5
At Victoria Pride Society we envision a world free of discrimination, violence, and ignorance, in which all people, through education, equality, and safety are empowered to lead full, authentic lives. Our main objective is to inspire full inclusion within the Pride Community and society at large through visibility, collaboration, ongoing conversation, and celebration.
- The Vicarious Shows – May 25 to July 04, 2020
- As the future of in-person Pride events became unlikely for 2020, Victoria’s vibrant Drag Community mobilized, and The Vicarious Shows sprung to life. This 12-part series, running every Saturday evening from May 25 until July 04, not only provides entertainment, but creates a powerful connection with our Communities that we desperately need in these difficult times. Led by local legends Henrietta Dubét and Shelita Cox, our local Drag Queens and Kings have proven that whether in-person or digital, Victoria’s Drag Community is as innovative as it is richly talented. See the Victoria Pride Society Facebook page for more information.
- The Annual Memorial Dragball Game – July 01, 2020
- What began as a fun day with friends over 20 years ago, has become a spectacle that draws up to 1000 spectators. As an in-person event is not an option for 2020 due to COVID, VPS is planning on creating a digital retrospective of Dragball. This event has, over time, become one of the most well attended Events staged by VPS and is the launch of Pride Week in Victoria scheduled for July 1st each year. While the event is extremely well attended, too few people know much about its origins and evolution which is rich in the history of Victoria’s Queer Communities This retrospective would provide a history of Dragball and track it’s evolution through interviews with founding members, fan-favorite participants from over the years, and archived footage.
- Victoria’s Pride Festival Virtual Beer Garden – July 05, 2020
- Victoria’s Pride Festival Beer Garden may look a little different this year but moving to a digital format ensure that the Queer Communities can enjoy all the entertainment they have come to expect, but with zero line-ups! And all this from the comfort of your own home! So be sure to tune in on July 05th 2020 and be a part of this event that celebrates you, your friends, your families and your communities. See the Victoria Pride Society Facebook page for more details as we move closer to the big day.
Your generous donations enable VPS to continue to provide support to numerous community services and initiatives, including; The VPS Youth Leadership Council, OutWrite eZine, Queer Youth Programming, Universty Schlorships, and Community Resources. Click here to donate.
Habitat for Humanity $200K in 100 Days – June 23 to Sept 30
Habitat for Humanity Victoria is inviting the Greater Victoria community to come together to help give eleven local families a hand-up into stable, affordable home ownership.
Recent events have highlighted just how important a safe and stable home can be. The uncertainty we have all experienced this year is the ongoing reality for many families coping with housing instability. Our partner families work hard to provide for their children, but it can be a struggle to maintain safe, stable housing when you have to choose between rent, childcare, paying the bills or buying groceries.
With your donation, you are giving them a hand-up into an affordable home to call their own, and helping them achieve a stable future that will benefit their children and strengthen our local community for years to come.
You are the key to a brighter future for these families.
