July is upon us! We’ve sponsored all sorts of events to keep you busy this month. From celebrating Canada Day with tens of thousands of people in Downtown Victoria to the Nanaimo Silly Boat Regatta, there is no shortage of events here. Read on to see where the fun is at!

Canada Day Celebration – July 1, 2019

Canada Day Victoria, presented by Coast Capital Savings, will showcase an impressive line-up of local and multicultural performances and family-friendly celebrations. The City of Victoria expects close to 50,000 attendees downtown on Sunday, July 1 at the festivities at Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Celebrations will begin at noon, culminating in the magnificent display of fireworks over Victoria’s Inner Harbour at 10:20 p.m., accompanied by an all Canadian music mix produced by The Zone at 91.3’s DJ Boitano. Headlining this year’s Main Stage performances on the iconic Legislature Lawn will be Victoria’s very own Carmanah. The community will have the opportunity to demonstrate its national pride and celebrate being Canadian by participating in the Coast Capital Savings “Living Flag”. Two thousand red and white T-shirts will be available courtesy of Coast Capital Savings for pick up starting at 12:30 p.m., or participants can bring their own red or white T-shirt to guarantee a spot. Participants are asked to assemble for the “Living Flag” photo between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on the Legislature Lawns. For a detailed schedule of events, performer bios and sponsors, visit:

Oaklands Sunset Market – July 3 – Sept 4, 2019

The Oaklands Sunset Market runs from July 3rd to September 4th on Wednesday evenings from 4:30pm to 8:30pm at the Oaklands Community Centre. The Market is a free, weekly community celebration featuring over 50 local food growers and producers, artisans, crafters, and body products and more. Each week features live music from local bands and performers, a Hoyne beer garden, a food truck court, activities for children, by-donation skill sharing workshops, and a space for the community to come together and meet their neighbours. Downtown Victoria Buskers Festival – July 3-7, 2019


Mark your calendars for the third annual Downtown Victoria Buskers Festival: July 3 – July 7

Head downtown for a free family-friendly five-day event featuring dynamic entertainers from across the globe.

This popular buskers festival draws 40,000 onlookers. It’s your chance to see seasoned street performers like puppeteers, magicians, musicians, jugglers, dancers, while enjoying the beauty of downtown Victoria.

Victoria Shakespeare Festival – July 4 – 27, 2019

Phenomacon – July 6, 2019

PHENOMACON is a one-day comic-con like event that will take place on July 6, 2019 at the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre in Colwood, BC. This event will aim to cater to various audiences, but particularly to fans of comic books and cosplay. It will feature a number of local vendors, a costume contest, several giveaways, workshops and appearances by local celebrities. We have already seen a large show of interest from the community, and are anticipating an attendance of approximately 400 people.

Victoria Pride Parade – July 7, 2019

Watch thousands of people in more than 100 colourful entries march through downtown Victoria to show their PRIDE and solidarity with the Queer community.

The parade begins at the corner of Pandora and Government, continuing south on Government, turning west on Belleville and then south on Menzies until turning west at Kingston; parade moves south on Oswego ending at MacDonald Park at the corner of Oswego and Simcoe. Follow the end of the parade to MacDonald Park in James Bay to the Victoria Pride Festival.

Since 1994, the annual Victoria Pride Parade has brought together people to increase the visibility of the diverse Queer community in Victoria, celebrate resilience and protest against continued marginalization. The parade has become one of the largest on the island with 2019 slated to be the loudest and proudest yet.

BC SPCA Lock In for Love – July 11 & 13, 2019

Animal-lovers in our community will be “locked in” at the BC SPCA Victoria Branch on Thursday, July 11th and Saturday, July 13th, 2019 to raise funds for local animals in need. Are you interested supporting this cause by:

– Donating help our participants reach their goals?

It’s a lot of fun and you’ll bring incredible awareness to our cause. All of the funds raised will support the animals we care for at the BC SPCA, including the furry kennel-mates!

SKAMpede – July 13-14, 2019

SKAMpede is Theatre SKAM’s 11th annual outdoor live performance festival and it is completely FREE! The festival runs July 13th and 14th along the Galloping Goose trail and Harbour Road, and will offer 12 different mini shows, ranging from dance to music and theatre to spoken word.

Each show is site-specific, designed for all ages, and accessible. Described and ASL Interpreted tours are available during the festival and audiences requiring such services are encouraged to contact Logan at Theatre SKAM (

Langham Court Theatre Giant Annual Costume Sale – July 13, 2019

The Costume Loft at Langham Court Theatre accepts clothing donations throughout the year, more than we could ever use on stage. That means once a year we hold our GIANT Annual Costume Sale, where customers can get great bargains and support local community theatre! Join us this year on July 13th from 10am-4pm.

What’s for sale? Clothing for all genders and ages! Costumes, clothing, jewelry, accessories, and amazing vintage treasures. We feature a variety of sizes and styles. This is an event not to be missed for fashion-minded individuals, performing arts groups, teachers, cosplayers and costume enthusiasts.

Nanaimo Silly Boat Regatta – July 14, 2019

Join all our amazing sponsors and all the Silly Sailors at the Silly Boat Regatta! Silly Boat is the Nanaimo Child Development Centre’s (NCDC) signature event – raising over $115,000 for programs and services in 2018. Celebrating 35 years of Silly Boat this year, the event is considered one of the premier events held in the City of Nanaimo.

Approximately 40 teams (made up of individuals, families, service groups and corporate individuals) have 4 hours to build a boat out of recycled or recyclable materials and then race them in the inner harbour. This fun, family-oriented event has it all! Proceeds raised at the event go towards programs and services provided at the Nanaimo Child Development Centre.

Join the FREE fun at the Pavilion Stage area (dancers, performers, crafts and educational booths), stroll through the park and watch the teams build their boats, purchase raffle tickets to support the cause and enjoy the beautiful scenery at Maffeo Sutton Park.

A Pin in the Map Live Poetry Tour – July 19, 2019

A Pin in the Map Live Poetry Tour coming to Victoria with Liz Breslin and Laura Williamson. Two New Zealand-based poets, working in both in the written and spoken forms, are taking to the stages, bookshops and bars of British Colombia, including a stop in Victoria.
Laura Williamson , born in Quebec and raised in BC, and Liz Breslin, with roots in the UK and Poland, can’t wait to bring their fun, provocative wordplay to Planet Earth Poetry, where they’ll be appearing as featured poets on Friday July 19 from 7:30pm at Hillside Coffee and Tea (across from Bolen Books).
They will also be running a workshop, ‘Writing from your roots’, from 10:30am to 2:30pm that day. Participants who bring their workshop poems to the Planet Earth Poetry open mic that evening will get first dibs on reading!

TD Art Gallery Paint In – July 20, 2019

The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is welcoming the community for the biggest art party of the year on July 20. Now in its thirty-second year the TD Art Gallery Paint-In on Moss Street, from Fort Street to Dallas Road, has grown to include over 190 artists and over 30,000 people attending!

On TD Art Gallery Paint In day, the AGGV opens at 10:00 a.m., the street will be hopping from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and the fun will continue in the family (and dog!) friendly Beer Garden from 11:a.m. until 6:00 p.m. On-stage performances include; Oscar & Arlene Steel Pan, original Canadiana with a tropical flair, indie-folk artist Steph MacPherson, dream pop performer Corduroy, Pastel Blank playing funky post-punk, and jangly indie pop performers, Bridal Party. Beverages will be offered from returning sponsors Lighthouse Brewing Company, Mission Hill Winery, Sea Cider Farm and Cider house and Victoria Soda Works.

The TD Art Gallery Paint In is one of the most important fundraisers of the year for the AGGV. Donations received at the Gallery and on Moss Street throughout the day go towards the costs of the event as well as supporting the AGGV’s incredible educational programs.
