Join the Great Victoria Concert Band!

Whether you’re brand new to music or play at a professional level, the Greater Victoria Concert Band has a band for you. Our members are all ages, from teens to seniors, and come from all walks of life. The organization is an umbrella group with four separate bands: Senior, Intermediate, Junior, and Novice. Each band holds rehearsals once a week, and all perform concerts in the community during the season from September to July. Are you picking up an instrument for the first time? GVCB’s Novice Band is a great place to take those first steps toward playing in an ensemble. The relatively small size of the band allows for individual instruction, and you’ll also have the encouragement of your fellow learners as your skills advance. Novice Band rehearses on Wednesday nights at Royal Oak Middle School, 6:00-7:00. If you’ve played an instrument for about a year or have just blown the cobwebs off that old trumpet in your basement, the Junior Band is a band of adult learners playing Grade 1 and 2 music. It’s a great place to have fun and improve your skills, or to take up a second instrument. The Junior Band rehearses on Wednesday nights at Royal Oak Middle School, 7:30-9:00. GVCB’s Intermediate Band plays music at the advancing high school level. It performs concerts throughout the year and is a great place to advance your music skills. The Intermediate Band rehearses on Monday nights at Claremont Secondary School, 7:30-9:30. Under the baton of Dr. Mike Keddy, GVCB’s Senior Band plays a varied repertoire of concert band music at the university level, and performs many concerts in the Greater Victoria area throughout the season. There is a membership fee for joining the band, but everyone is welcome to try three rehearsals before joining.
