Employment Opportunity Position Title: JETS Participant Position Number: 2023-0417 Department: Employment Services | JETS Employment Program Location: 1452 Elford Street, Victoria, BC Days/Hours of Work: Monday-Friday, 10:00 am-4pm (23 hrs/wk) Terms: Temporary part-time for 6 consecutive weeks Compensation: $15.65/hour Posting Period: March 22, 2023 to April 17, 2023 Start Date: April 17, 2023 ABOUT BEACON COMMUNITY SERVICES: Beacon Community Services is a well-established local charity operating in the Greater Victoria area for over 45 years. We are an award-winning and accredited not-for-profit organization that helps people and improves lives through a range of programs and services. Employment services supports job searchers with training, life skills and employment readiness and success for retention. We serve southern Vancouver Island and the outer Gulf Islands with a team of around 250 staff and 600 volunteers. JETS Employment Program tailors services to youth and young adults seeking work. JETS participants gain confidence for self-marketing and succeed in the work-place. POSITION SUMMARY: JETS (Jumpstart Employment, Training & Skills) is a paid, 6-week pre-employment program for individuals’ ages 16 to 30 years. The program is actively recruiting new participants. They will also be assisted with obtaining employment in an area of their choosing. Post-program completion, coaching is offered for 3-months for further support. The program is a blend of in-person and online coursework; it includes workshops, certificates, an active job search component, and eligibility for 8 weeks of wage subsidy. JETS Employment Program serves vulnerable youth with disorders or disabilities to move forward towards their goals. Highlights of program supports: • Bus tickets • Nutritional snacks • Small group workshops consisting of ages between 16 to 30 years • Wage subsidy component – up to 8 weeks for employer training incentive • Living Allowance based on minimum wage (T4A’s are issued at the end of the year) Workshop topics covered through JETS include: • Career Exploration • Personal Goal-Setting • Healthy Lifestyle Awareness • Team-Building • Communication Skills • Budgeting & Personal Finance • Computer Skill-Building • Hidden Job Market & Networking • Resumes & Cover Letter Support • Interview Preparation • Paid Certification Opportunities • Individual Job Search Planning • Active Job Search Support ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ELIGIBILITY: Beacon Community Services is delivers contract services by the Federal Government of Canada to deliver JETS Employment Program until March 2024. Eligibility is required for program entry which includes; • Young adults between the ages of 16 to 30 years. • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident status • Young adults who are looking for work • Not currently attending school or working • Commitment to participate for duration of program Contact us for more information.
