Respite Worker

Respite Worker (Victoria) We require a respite worker to support a young man with an intellectual disability. You are someone who values inclusion and diversity. You are a strong communicator, organized and trustworthy. Also, you can adapt and modify activities for persons with reduced mobility for participation in community and outdoors. You enjoy music (which includes pop and 80s tunes, as well as the occasional karaoke session) and vibrant, fun events. The right candidate is: - Energetic, caring and kind - Able to provide personal care, as required - Active and enjoys getting out into the community and outdoors while providing support - Available for shifts in the afternoons on the weekdays and on weekends - Aware they require the Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable sector search and will provide this document - Proficient in teaching life skills towards greater independence - Willing to provide transportation in their own vehicle that is road safe and have a valid Drivers License Your duties include: - Organizing and scheduling suitable activities - Assistance with custom orthotic braces (AFO) - Personal care, as required - Administrative (related to budget and work records) - Facilitating and teaching life skills - Providing consistent care and support suited to the individual’s needs - Transportation, with assistance in and out of vehicle - Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed - Maintaining communication with care team Experience working with persons with intellectual disabilities is an asset. Being a patient and active listener, able to adapt to speech language delays, is essential. The wage is $20.00 per hour. The shifts are once to twice a week and range from 2 - 4 hours. A per km rate is offered to cover transportation. Expenses related to activities are covered as well. If you are interested, please attach a cover letter and resume when you respond.
