For your consideration: I made this 8 1/2" long white oak fid finished with six light coats of boiled linseed oil. A hair or two under an inch in diameter this fid is made entirely with elbow grease as it would have been made in the 1700s (hand plane, saw, spokeshave, and sandpaper: no lathe!). This fid features a duckbill point for ease of splicing with natural and synthetic fibers alike. Due to the nature of it's manufacture you can expect some minor variances or other asymmetry. For example, the diameter of the fid at the widest point varies by up to 1/32" (1 mm). Dimensions: 8 1/2" x 15/16" Metric: 215 x 24mm I am happy to take commissions if you need a particular size. I will also entertain offers if you think my pricing is out to lunch.
