8. Vintage 5 ½-inch ice-fishing reel. Ice-fishing reels are awkward to handle until mounted on a rod, when their simplicity can be appreciated. In essence, the drum is mounted on the foot. Like others I have seen, there is no maker’s mark, but it may be a Pfleuger., probably from the 1920s. It is all-brass with a grey matt finish, with two line guards ( for left- or right-handed wind) and has a drag lever which presses the side of the rim when pressed with a finger. In very good condition, and a nice example of the genre.
