Shelter: BC SPCA - Victoria Branch Animal ID: 548194 Birthdate: November 09, 2020 - Young Adult Spayed/Neutered: No Female Sweet Sadie came to the shelter after living a life where she was kept outside in a pen with minimal interaction from humans. We suspect Sadie has experienced physical abuse in the past. When she came to the SPCA she struggled with being indoors, walking on slippery floors, and being around so many humans. She would lay in the corner with her eyes closed and shake all day, she wouldn't eat, and she wouldn't go outside. We were very worried about her welfare, until she met a staff dog named Mabel! Mabel and her dog friends have helped Sadie to feel safe and come out of her shell. Sadie will go on walks when she is with her canine pals and will even play with toys in her kennel and snuggle with her new friends. When her canine pals are around she will allow us to hand feed her like the delicate princess she is. So without a doubt, Sadie needs a home with a friendly confident dog to show her the ropes. She learns by watching the other dogs interact with humans, and then mimicking that behaviour once she's seen it is safe to do so. Sadie is not suitable for young children and will need a quiet household with few visitors initially. She will also need yard access while she gets comfortable living indoors and going on walks. She would like a guardian who is patient and kind and willing to work with an Animalkind trainer to help build her confidence. Sadie doesn't have a mean bone in her body, she is by far the sweetest dog! When scared she will hide in corners or in her crate (which she quite likes!) until she feels safe to come out. Sadie will take a while to settle in to a home, so someone who is around frequently would be ideal. Thank you for your interest in adopting from us! Due to the high number of applications we receive for our animals, we will only be contacting potential adopters to further review their application. Please note, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic our adoption process has changed. Please visit our website https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/how-to-adopt/ for more information and to apply for the animal you are interested in. All adoptions are by appointment only once we have received and approved an application.
