Well, I can longer afford my rent or find a dignified stable job in Victoria, so I am selling what I can and putting the rest into storage and leaving this increasingly "walking dead" city on foot to go "camping". I am heading up island from Parksville, and will keep going until I find a place the exact opposite of what Victoria is imploding into. So, I only have until the end of May to sell this spectacular "cafe bike". This is a barely vintaged, hydraulic disk braked, CUSTOM 'Kona Unit' single speed, fully restored and "repimped out" over the years at least 3 times. Impeccably built up and maintained with boutique level, but durable and lightweight TOL, top brand components all around. I can tell you the accidental elephant collection story that lead to all the blue parts if you'd like. Not only is the bike currently in optimal shape, even those parts up next for replacement are also included as part of the package, including a NEW nickel plated SS chain (at least a season away, current chain has at least 30% of its "stretch" life left), $200 NEW (SHINY LIGHT BLUE!!!) Kona Flats (the more than 15 year old flats, once on my 52 lb Stinky 9, simply refuse to die, lol), and a NEW set of spare brake pads. There is also a spare Brooks saddle, a whitish Cambrium, not photoed, that comes with for winter/rain use, as this leather saddle is gettting pretty beat down by now. Chris King Hubs and headset and handbuilt wheels I have never had to true, made by a master wheel builder from Vancouver (Mark Bennett), mint, these will outlast civilization if basically maintained, even there it is easily $700 used for these wheels pieced out alone, a Campy Chorus crank, one season use new-old stock Campy chainring, Thomson stem and seatpost, original generation Carbon Fibre Easton Monkey Bar (never trail ridden), super rare and top notch OX Platinum frame tubes, no entry level crap on this bike. You could sell the pieces here and make more than I am asking. This bike is for the simple joy of toodling around the flatter neighborhoods of Vic on a sunny weekend, or for the 100's of km's of nearly flat bike trails (I have ridden this to Potholes Park in Sooke and back many times!) with nowhere you really need to be at all. There is no drive train that feels better or is more efficient than a single speed optimally tuned. Until you ride a bike like this, you simply have no idea what that feels like. I also have a 16 tooth used cog you can have too, the current cog is 18 teeth, also barely a season of wear. I am 6 feet, 180 pounds (75 kg), but should've run a 20 inch frame, but this is a 19 inch frame, simply because I prefer the more sloped look and extra standover room. The range of fit here is very wide, but may be too small for someone getting up to 6' 3", or too big for someone smaller than 5' 6", but is very adjustable with the super long seatpost, variable fore and aft seat position or by using different stems and bars, etc. It weighs 19 pounds, which is very light for a steel framed bike! I will ignore lowballers, but here is what I am thinking: $1099 OBO. I will consider trades for a similarly sized steel touring bike in ready to ride condition, 57-58 cm. Remember, not for sale after June 30th, not a manipulation, just my reality. Please email, Brian.
