I've only used it as a 8 channel mixer although the recording functions seem to work fine. Handles a variety of microphone and line level inputs including XLR with phantom power. The digital recorder uses old school Minidiscs or MD Data discs. It, however, also provides direct outputs for the 8 channels and also separate stereo out (mixed) that can be used directly with an external recorder. There are 4 extra inputs that can be used with an effects processor or used to provide additional stereo input. So, it supports 8 mono channels in/out with optionally 2 additional stereo channels. It's a very flexible mixing console and reknown Yamaha quality.
