St. John Ambulance Division 176 is actively recruiting VOLUNTEER Medical First Responders to provide front-line event-medical services at public events, street outreach clinics, and other community initiatives. Members will learn advanced first aid skills and put them to use providing pre-hospital first aid and medical care in the field, with mentorship and guidance from experienced paramedics, nurses and doctors. Training opportunities include mandatory certification as a Medical First Responder (provided), as well as courses covering bike squad, radio communications, annual CPR re-certification, leadership training, and more. Members also have access to, and are expected to regularly attend, weekly training sessions on Monday evenings. Expected commitment is a minimum 200 hours of training, mentorship, and community service time in your first year, and a minimum 60 hours in subsequent years. Many of our volunteers contribute significantly more. Successful applicants will be 18 years or older, have a strong desire to serve their community through volunteer service, and be able to demonstrate professionalism and maturity. Successful completion of a vulnerable sector criminal record check is required. Applicants must hold current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certifications prior to application. All further training is provided at no charge by SJA.
