The 2018 Victoria Sports News New Year's Day Polar Bear Swim was such a success - with just two weeks of planning - that we decided to make it an annual tradition. Thanks to the City of Colwood, we were able to pull it off. Approximately 500 people showed up and enjoyed the occasion of symbolically washing away the previous year while celebrating the new one. Troy Birtwistle, a Victoria HarbourCats coach, performed the ceremonial first dive while dressed fully in a HarbourCats uniform. There was generous amounts of delicious hot chocolate and draw prizes provided by Frontrunners and the Victoria HarbourCats. We are adding to the even this year. Check Victoria Sports News for updates. For 2018, there were donations taken on behalf of KidSport Greater Victoria. This year, an online registration is available for a $5 donation, which will include the swim, hot chocolate and draw prizes. For $30, there will be access to portable heaters, tents and a commemorative 2019 VSN New Years Day Polar Bear Swim shirt.
