Hourly Wage $24.64 - $27.90 Location Veterans Memorial Lodge Position # / Schedule: 79630 - Monday to Friday 8:00-3:30pm 1.0 FTE Status Regular Full Time Comp # 2020-170 Closing Date January 2, 2021 QUALIFICATIONS * Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program; or Secondary school graduation or equivalent, supplemented by course work in geriatric activation/rehabilitation, plus two years of recent related experience * Experience providing therapy services in a clinical setting for frail elderly residents who have cognitive and/or physical impairments and disabilities * Experience providing exercise programs for the geriatric population is considered an asset * Experience making minor adjustments or repairs to walkers and wheelchairs is considered an asset General Competencies * Proven knowledge of the principles of dementia care * Knowledge or aptitude for learning about a wide variety of walkers, power and manual wheelchairs and other therapeutic equipment, their maintenance and adaptation * Strong organizational skills are required * Competency in organization of workplace; operation of equipment and prioritization and management of duties * Proficiency in the use of computers * Effective verbal communication skills with residents of varying levels of cognition, families, staff, and therapists * Effective written communication skills via email and online charting in clinical records * Cooperative and effective manner in problem solving with staff, residents, family members, volunteers and paid companions * Capable of working efficiently under supervision, independently, and in collaboration with others * Excellent physical strength and flexibility required to operate tools and equipment associated with the position, e.g. lifts, ACW NOTES: * For questions related to the position, please contact Brenda Hannah, Director at 250-658-3233. * Submit your resume with cover letter by response to this advertisement * Subject line in email should read 2020-170 Therapy Assist.
