Auld Licht Idylls, by Sir James Barrie, the Scottish novelist and dramatist who is best known for inventing the character of Peter Pan. Published by Henry T. Coates & Co. Philadelphia. This book is undated. This publishing company went under this name between 1895-1904. It was in 1904 it focused on The "New Acorn" Library bound in cloth with elaborate and effective "acorn" cover design. This would be one of those volumes, so it would have been printed in 1904 the last year this publishing company was under this name. You can read further into the publishing history of Henry T. Coates & Co. with these two links: http://19thcenturyjuvenileseries.com/publishers/portercoates.html http://sdrc.lib.uiowa.edu/lucile/publishers/coates/COATES.HTM Book overall is in the pretty decent condition given its age other than a full hinge split between the front pastedown and endpaper (see picture provided for an example of this). The illustrated art plate is unfaded with bright engaging colors, with a small tear to top left corner. All 250 pages are secure to binding, clean and present. "Auld Licht Idylls" is Barrie's second book and first serious work of fiction, a series of stories centering around a religious sect called Auld Licht in the Scottish community of Thrums. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations. Within the United States, you may freely copy and distribute this work, as no entity (individual or corporate) has a copyright on the body of the work. It was first published in 1888.
