This is a satellite phone, you can put it on a monthly subscription, their website can tell you more about the phone, coverage, plans, etc.

It works anywhere there is a clear sky and within the map coverage area. The coverage and customer service support has been great for me, they walk you through resetting and setting up the phone and it was easy to cancel the service as well.
