$12,345 · Pyrotechnician/Visual Arts (lighting & Scenic) Technician

This is a full-time position in the Arts & Entertainment Department, alternating between Fireworks in the summer and Visual Arts in the winter, where primary focus will be on the Christmas Display. The successful applicant will be expected to assist with any firework activities that fall under the jurisdiction of The Butchart Gardens, including preparing and fusing fireworks, as well as installation, fabrication and repairs of existing firework mechanical structures, shell and candle holders, and scenic elements. Familiarity with fireworks, theatrical scenic elements and props (for both Fireworks and Christmas), lighting and electricity, as well as previous experience with mechanics, carpentry and metal work would be an asset. Please note that there is an inherent danger in the handling and discharge of fireworks. Successful completion of the Natural Resources Canada Display Fireworks Safety course is mandatory. Some work will take place at heights. Evening, weekend, and overtime work will be required, and there will occasionally be very long days. Good physical fitness is required as the job duties involve considerable walking and the activities are repetitive in nature and require lifting strength.
