P/T or Full Time Caregiver and Therapy Aide for our 20 year old disabled son
Our 20 year old son suffered trauma following surgery ten years ago. As a result he lost use of all muscles. After 13 months in hospital he returned home to begin rehabilitation. In spite of many setbacks and repeated surgeries he has made a lot of progress and dreams of one day walking again. He has weekly PT, OT, SLP, Music Therapy, and Kinesiology in the local pool. He has a joyful spirit and works hard to overcome tremendous and constant obstacles to his progress.
But he has made wonderful progress with the love and support of his family, friends, therapist and most importantly his wonderful team of caregivers.
We hire caregivers seven days a week to help with his personal care and his therapies, as well as to bring activity and joy into his life. We have a fully accessible home that is equipment for assisting in his transfers, bathing, and therapy. We provide initial and continuous training in the use of the equipment and therapy techniques.
One of our caregivers is going on maternity leave and another has completed her education and is transitioning into her new career. We are looking for someone to work part time. We are also looking for someone to provide vacation and sick leave back up to our other caregivers, as well as regular scheduled week day shifts. There is also the potential for a full time position.
This is a job with our family in our home and is not an institution. You will become a member of our team and extended family.
You do not require experience in this type of work. We have a team of professionals who provide continuous training as well as many shifts have experienced caregivers working with newer workers.
You are joyful, physically active and healthy, and will enjoy assisting our son to have a good quality of life while he works toward his goals. You have good written and verbal English communication skills. You have a current drivers' license and a safe driving record. Our home is smoke free. Thank you for considering our position.
