Nitro - *not Viewable In Shelter* - German Shepherd Dog

Nitro is one of a number of German Shepherds who recently came into care. Like the others, he could benefit from more socialization and more experience of the outside world around him, and so we are looking for a very special home with some very special people who will give her the patience he needs. These dogs have no experience around urban city life and thus will need to live in homes that are away from busy downtown areas and have access to a secure yard. A yard will allow them to work on leash skills while being exposed to the outdoors in a positive controlled way. These dogs will need lots of positive reinforcement training ideally with the oversight of a force free trainer to keep them on track in their socialization. Their perfect home would have low foot traffic, few visitors, and be a stand alone dwelling (no shared hallways). These shepherds are not ideal to live with young children and have limited social skills with other animals. Some Shepherds may be more prone to health issues that are common to the breed (such as joint issues), so please do some research so you are fully aware of any potential problems. Nitro is the youngest dog we received. He has been quite impressionable and bonded quickly to select staff members. He is still quite nervous outside and takes some time to adjust when placed in a new space. Nitro is still wary of handling and doesn't like to be pet without being rewarded for it. Nitro would like a home where he can work on his confidence and expand his social skills. A guardian interested in these dogs will need to submit an application as well as a short paragraph on your German shepherd experience, training methods, and how you plan to integrate these dogs into your home. Please be aware that these dogs are not currently viewable in our shelter and will need time to adapt and progress their social skills before any potential meet & greets can be organized.
