Interested in Japanese Woodworking? I teach group lessons at Lee Valley and private lessons from my home studio. Three levels of classes. Class one: History of Japanese carpentry. Attitude, spirit and use of Japanese tools. Introduction to marking & measurement tools and saws. Students will complete a simple Japanese "floor horse". Class two: Japanese joinery, layout, chisels and sharpening. Students will complete their first Japanese wood joint. Class three: Understand the Japanese hand plane. TEACHER BIO: Having spent most of his life practicing Japanese martial arts, travelling to Japan led to an appreciation for Nipon woodworking practices. In 2010, Mark graduated from the University of Victoria with a undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from the faculty of Visual Arts. In 2013, he completed a post-graduate degree in Teacher Education. Today, Mark is a full-time furniture maker/Japanese-inspired joiner, who creates one-of-a-kind works of art for the home as well as outdoor Japanese structures.
