Open edition aviation art prints (3) of a Hawker Tempest Mk V (series 2), Curtiss P-40M Kittyhawk Mk III, RAF No.260 Sqn., 1943, and Canadair CL-13 Sabre each signed by JAMES F. "Stocky" EDWARDS by artist JOHN COWAN. Hawker Tempest Mk V. The aircraft depicted was the personal Tempest of Canadian ace James F. "Stocky" Edwards, DFC & Bar, DFM of RAF No. 274 Sqn. Wing Commander Edwards is Canada's highest scoring living ace. The Tempest was a highly refined development of the Hawker Typhoon which first took flight in June 1943 and entered service in April 1944. The aircraft was fast at 426 mph and highly maneuverable which allowed it to intercept and destroy V1 Buzz Bombs with great efficiency. The fighter was armed with four 20 mm cannons and was powered by a 2180 hp Napier Sabre II in-line piston engine. It could be equipped with two 1,000 lb bombs or eight 60 lb rocket projectiles. W/C Edwards is Canada's highest scoring living ace. Price is firm. The photos doe not do this privately produced art justice. Overall print size is approximately 17 by 11 inches. Printed on 80lb. acid-free paper. Very good to excellent condition (very, very minor edge handling marks), never framed, and stored flat in acid-free materials. Smoke and pet free home.
