Chinese Altar Table, circa early 20th Century
Ming style 4-drawer altar table from Zhejiang Province. The table is a typical Ming design piece with clean minimalistic architectural lines. Made without any glue or nails, pieces are held together by a complicated network of joints. The sophisticated technical abilities of the cabinet makers and carpenters who made them were incredibly advanced. Altar tabled were often used to display musical instruments and items of wealth such as jade.
