$50 · Canadair Sabre Mk 2 F-86 RCAF Pilot Signed Aviation Art Print

Open edition aviation art featuring the Canadair Sabre Mk 2, RCAF 410 (Cougar) Sqn., 1952 by artist JOHN COWAN and signed in pencil by DOUGLAS "Duke" WARREN. A graceful and efficient jet fighter, the Sabre equipped many of the world's air forces from 1951 until well into the 1960's. The Canadian CL-13 Sabre was built under licence by Canadair Ltd. Of Montreal. The Mark 2 was equivalent to the North American F-86E and was the first variant to enter RCAF service. While most of its fame came from USAF operations in Korea, RCAF Sabres served primarily to fulfill Canada's NATO obligations in western Europe. The aircraft shown (serial number 19161) was the personal aircraft of Sqn. Ldr. Warren when he commanded RCAF 410 Squadron. At the request of S/L Warren, a red flash was painted on the vertical stabilizer's leading edge. This was the only Sabre in the squadron to display that marking. Duke Warren has individually signed a very limited number of prints showing his unique aircraft. Sadly Warren passed in 2011. He took part in the infamous Dieppe Raid during World War II. The photo does not do this privately produced art justice. Overall print size is approximately 17 by 11 inches. This reproduction is printed on 80lb. acid-free paper. Very good to excellent condition (very, very minor edge handling marks), never framed, and stored flat in acid-free materials. The price is firm. Smoke and pet free home. Local pickup in Victoria only.
