Downsizing! This cabinet is from Japan and originally was used as a storage cabinet for beds (futon). It is from the Meiji Era (late 19th century) in Japan. We bought it in San Francisco in approximately 1998 from a company that specializes in buying antique furniture in Japan, shipping them back to North America and restoring and re-purposing them. This has been repurposed into an entertainment centre. It is made from solid Keyaki wood or Zelkova in English, which is highly valued in Japan. As you can see from the photo, there is a large crack down the left door. The change in climate from California to Victoria caused this. We actually like this crack and think it adds more character and beauty to the piece. It is also a bit warped but none of this affects its functionality. It is built in two pieces for easy transport. All serious offers considered.
