Solid walnut office arm chair. Wonderful design, beautifully contoured. Molded seat with U back with serpentine slatback. VERY comfortable. Sturdy and strong - these chairs were made to last! Marked with a paper tag underside the seat: W.H. Gunlocke Co. Wayland, New York with date: 1947. It weighs in at a hefty 25 pounds and is as solid today as when it was new. It will easily last another 62 years! I read that these chairs sold for a hefty US$72.50 each nearly sixty years ago! In good condition, structurally sound. All joints are tight and no squeaks anywhere. Has all original foot glides present. Original finish shows wear, but it's an honest looking piece with no major damage. Very functional as is, but would be gorgeous with a little work. Refinished this chair would look absolutely stunning! I have included photos (the last 2) of a similar chair that was refinished. Dimensions: 31 1/2" tall, 27 1/2" arm height. Seat: 18" tall x 21" wide x 17" deep The history of the Gunlocke Co. is very impressive. Gunlocke began in 1902 as a chair manufacturer before expanding their portfolio to include other furniture products. Gunlocke is one of the few furniture companies that still does "steam bending," a technique it introduced in 1912. The standards of quality and steambending the wood have lasted for over 100 yrs. The Gunlocke chair was used by Presidents, The Oval Office, Corporate Companies and Universities.
