$150 · WoodenBoat Magazine Rare Issues #1 onwards (233 issues in total)

WoodenBoat magazine started in 1974 and continues to this day. Initially, it came out in four issues per year, then went to six. I am offering a set of 233 issues, from issue #1 (September 1974) to #244 (June 2015). There are a few missing issues, but the set is complete up to #212 (January/February 2010). The other missing issues are: 202, 223, 226, 228, 232, 238, 239, 242, and 243 - all of these are available on the WB Store website. These have been well cared-for, but some have minor nicks on the covers. All are in Good to Very Good condition, with these caveats: • Most of numbers 1 to 38 have either a sticker on the cover over the US price, with a handwritten Canadian price on the sticker; or the US price is blacked out and the Canadian price handwritten beside it. • Issue #15 has a slightly torn cover (about 1”) at the top at the binding edge; otherwise very good. • Many of the issues 28 through 35 have a slight ogee (wavy) curve from being stored in a slightly too-small box. Otherwise, these also are in very good condition. • Many have minor discoloration (from exposure to light) on the top edges or the edges opposite the binding. ***In addition to the regular issues, also included at NO EXTRA COST are: • 3 annual issues (2008, 2009, and 2010) of WB Magazine's Small Boats; WB Magazine's 2013 MotorBoats; and WB Magazine's Beautiful Boats (1994). These are all full-size magazines. • 3 hard-copy indexes, for issues 1-36, issues 1-60, and Supplement for issues 61-78. These have been superseded by an on-line searchable index on the WB website, but are of interest as showing a growing awareness of the need by the WB publisher, and make a handy reference to the early issues. • 4 older WB Catalogues, which will do you no good at all but the prices will make you extremely nostalgic :-) A bookstore up island sells hardcopy issues for up to US$60 on Abebooks.com and other issues for US$50 each! Ebay.ca often lists many issues, some as cheaply as 12 or 14 US dollars, plus shipping. Shipping the set would be expensive, so I’m offering them first to Victoria, southern Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands for pickup in Victoria. If you live elsewhere and want them despite the shipping cost, email me. The early issues have long been unavailable. For a while, the WoodenBoat Store offered black-and-white photocopies, but now early back issues are available only in digital format. The availability of digital copies is great, since otherwise a hugely valuable resource would be lost. But for browsing, the paper copy is the way to go to learn skills and daydream about boats!
