This beautiful, handcrafted work of Mid-Century Modernist pottery was designed by Aldo Londi (b. 1911 - d. 2003) for Bitossi Ceramiche. Inspiration for the glaze is said to be taken from the Adriatic Sea, off the coast of Rimini in Italy, and hence the series name Rimini Blue. The glaze and the series, which subsequently grew from it have become iconic and the most highly collectible of Aldo Londis' work. The geometric decor is very tactile, with shapes and lines being embossed into the white clay during the crafting process. The gorgeous and vibrant glaze displays strokes of green, azure, and deep crystalline blue, the great blend of glossy smooth glaze is interspersed with coarse grit in the clay. The underside is signed. It is in extremely good vintage condition with no cracks, or repairs and only a few fleabites to the glaze. It measures about 8.5" x 1.25"
