Rare Silver Plated Ottawa First Chief of Police Presentation Coffee Set 1863 On 1 January 1855, Bytown was declared a city and was renamed Ottawa. The Ottawa Police Service can trace its roots directly back to the incorporation of the City of Ottawa in 1855. The first Chief of Police for the City of Ottawa was Roderick Ross. He was appointed in 1855 and remained in office until 1863. Seventeen Constables were appointed and paid by the City to assist the Chief in his duties. This set polishes up beautifully.
