This item is called a Strut and it was used to hold a mirror in its day and was likely on an antique oak dresser or an antique dining room server. Unfortunately, it is the only piece of the dresser or server that survived and made it into this century. On either side of the Strut are two raised Asian carved and hand-painted relief pictures, one depicting a man and one depicting a woman. The framed picture in the middle depicts a woman probably from the 1920's or 1930's sitting in a room and holding a oval shaped hand mirror. The marriage of these two pieces provides a very pleasant visual wall decoration for someone who can appreciate the unconventional. Length and width of Strut: 39 3/4" x 25 1/4" Picture size: 15" x 12 1/2"
