I have been imploring Saanich council for over 3 years to do something about my neighbor's backyard chickens. The building I live in is adjacent to their backyard. The chickens are about 7 meters from my bedroom window and my balcony, which is my only outdoor space. They are ill cared for and are often in distress. (There are 5 hens in a small coop..they are always in there...never let out). They start cackling as early as 5 am..and often go on for hours. The coop is never cleaned and it stinks so bad that it permeates my entire apartment and makes me ill. I recently submitted complaints that I had gathered from 11 other residents of the building complaining about the noise and smell. I was AGAIN told there is nothing they can do. How is it fair that we all have to put up with this?? Can you please help?
