WANTED: Free Yarn for Charitable Projects 😊

The Beacon Babes would like to turn your leftover yarns, cones, skeins, balls, acrylic or natural fibres, into small projects for several charities. Every donation will be put to good use and no quantity is too small. (We can also take cross stitch kits, embroidery kits, weaving thread and quilting cotton.) Typically donated yarn is used to make: - hats for children in Uganda - teddy bears for the Compassionate Warehouse* - hat-sweater sets for newborn babies on Vancouver Island who have no home to go to when they leave the hospital - prayer shawls to comfort local people facing difficulties - winter hats for Comfort Canada - cotton wash cloths for midwives overseas via Compassionate Warehouse* - small items which are sold in the foyer display case to raise $ for seniors' activities at the Shoal Centre *(See the attached letter for a summary of the good the Compassionate Warehouse achieved in 2018. Soft items are used instead of packing peanuts so your yarn donations are sent worldwide.) Kits are made and sold to raise $ for seniors' activities at Summergate Village, as are quilting supplies. Weaving threads are used by Brentwood 55 Plus to teach beginners how to weave. When we can't use up the yarn quickly enough, we pass it on to the senior knitters at Norgarden in Sidney, the knitting group at Tsawout, or local church groups. Please phone to arrange drop-off. (Occasionally one of us can arrange to pick up donated yarn.) We meet in Sidney every Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Serious Coffee on Beacon Avenue at Fifth Street. All welcome!
