Hello:
I am searching for information on: Captain William Grant born in Grantville, Cape Breton 1835. He was also a co-owner of the Victoria Sealing Company. He was the Captain of the sailing ships: Oliver Jordan, Louisa Hatch, George and Thomas E. Kenney. He lost ships due to Hurricanes, American Civil War, and a shipwreck off the coast of Patagonia. He ran blockades in the War between Argentine and Paraquay and out ran South American Pirates. He died in Victoria, B.C. 1916.
He married Helen Mary Smith from Maitland, Nova Scotia in 1873. She was born in 1853. Died in Victoria, B.C. in 1943. She was a School Teacher and a promoter of "the Suffragette Movement".
Any stories, Diaries or Journals about them would be greatly appreciated. She owned a Sealing Schooner named Beatrice. They were born into families of Shipbuilding, and "Tall Sails" ... Exporting, Trade and sale of Sailing Ships and Seal/Whale interests.
Thank you, Art
