I'm a student representing the EMCS Robotics in Sooke, our goal is as a Robotics Team is to be responsible with how we acquire Electronics. We've recently started our ReUse Initiative that allows the community to donated old or otherwise unwanted computers and components. Why? Our goal is to eliminate Region E-Waste. E-Waste is Electronic Waste. Further, it's consumer electronics that are inevitably sent to developing countries illegally where they end up in landfills poisoning water and food. As a Robotics Team we feel that it is part of our responsibility to use parts towards our Robotics and the Electronics Division of EMCS, rather than letting those Electronics become the destruction of our global environment.
Quick Facts, 2015 alone over $19 Billion Dollars USD was illegally made from the exports of E-Waste to developing countries.
42 Million Metric Tons of E-Waste was produced in 2015.
Post Scriptum, the gray poster is outdated by 1 year of data which means yes 2014 generated $14.7 Billion Dollars USD and that went up $3.3 Billion Dollars USD in one year. This is why we must end this destruction of our planet, it's not getting better on it's own. Give your old computer a home that does something educational, better inspiring and developing.
