This is for a Rare Antique whiskey flask. It has its original wicker cover and has a metal cap. Bottle closed with a cork. The flask is clear glass and is hand blown as can be determined by the top. It dates from the end of the 1800's to the early 1900's making it about 100 years old. Before 1903 ALL bottles were hand blown and had a top separately applied or tooled. The term to describe these bottles is BIMAL , meaning Blown In Mold Applied Top. The Owens Bottle Machine was invented then making bottles entirely by machine thus revolutionizing the bottle industry. Bottles made with this machine are called ABM, meaning Automatic Bottle Machine. These machines were extremaly expensive and ony the most sussessful glass manufacturers were able to afford them. Slowly over the next 20 or so years eventually virtually all bottles were machine made except for Art Glass. Eventually the Owens company merged with the very successful Libby Glass company and Ford motor cars, forming Libby Owens Ford. Glass can be found with the LOF monogram. Now you have had a lesson in glass history. This bottle/ flask is of the BIMAL variety. Carying string strap. Size 7.5 inches by 3.5 inches by 2 inches.
