I am selling my 1988 Yamaha YSR 50. I've owned it for the past 12 years and have repaired or replaced almost everything on it. The engine was rebuilt 2 years ago, and new front and back tires put on, new kick-start assembly, spark plug and chain. I had the gas tank taken off, re-leaded and repainted. The rear brakes and brake assembly have been replaced. The exhaust system/pipe have been replaced as well. I have had two government inspections in 2000 and 2004 (police hate this bike - government inspections are brutal, they make you fix everything). I have all the receipts for the work I've had done over the years.
There are a couple minor flaws, the ferring is cracked in one spot, and also one turn signal is cracked. You will need a new 6v battery (not expensive) as well since the bike has been in storage for 2 years.
It pains me to sell this bike, but I have come to the realization that I haven't had time to ride it, so there is no point pumping money into it every year and it would better serve someone else. I once ran into a previous owner who advised me to NEVER sell it and to keep fixing it up because it will make me happy. Until now I have heeded his advice, but it's time to move on.
Because this bike is only 49cc you are supposedly able to ride it on the streets legally without a Class 6 (motorcycle) license. I've heard conflicting things from people, some say because there is a clutch that you do need a license. I've owned and ridden this bike for over a decade and have gone through NUMEROUS road blocks and been pulled over several times and never been ticketed for not having my class 6 license. However this bike is small enough and quick enough to outrun/out maneouver any cop, so being pulled over is completely optional.
I have the original Yamaha repair manual and an extra spark plug and some chain lube you can have with purchase. (I might have to do some searching for the repair manual though).
