$995 · 1957 Joe Dimaggio original Sample Calendar. 22" x 45".

An incredible find! A very large, spectacular looking item. One of those truly "one of a kind items." An original 1957 color lithographic advertising piece featuring Joe Dimaggio. This was made as a sample of a calendar to be produced by Brown & Bigelow. Apparently these were submitted first to DiMaggio for his approval before the actual calendars would be produced. The calendars would of course be much smaller in size (11" x 23" I believe). This measures approx. 22" x 45 3/4". So, this would have been a sample sent to Dimaggio for his approval before the actual production of the smaller calendar. I think it's also possible this would have been used as a salesman's sample. The only other known one sold for $1500 US$ about a year ago at a U.S. auction house. What makes this piece much more unique and even rarer is that it was made for distribution in Canada. I have seen one other of this print, several years ago and it did not include the Canadian production information under the Brown & Bigelow portion but rather had their address. Below the photo is the line "star of tomorrow" and below that is: Brown & Bigelow Remembrance Advertising Registered Canada Produced in Canada by Rolph-Clark-Stone Limited Toronto, Canada The Sept. 1957 page is a sample one attached to the poster by glue across the top and by two small pieces of clear tape in the bottom corners. I suspect the tape is not original but added sometime later by someone not wanting the page to get damaged since it would have loose and quite floppy in the bottom 90% below where it was glued. Under the calendar page is a line that says "From the collection of the National Baseball hall of Fame and Museum, Cooperstown, New York Used by permission." Below that in the bottom left corner is the number 26-033X-B.
