In the first yr of prod for this model, the car was called a 350SL. The following yr it was called a 450SL. This particular example appears to have been sold new in Germany, as it has German wording on the dash and the service books indicte the name and address in Germany, where the car was orig sold and serviced, by the local Mercedes dealer. It was recently stripped to the bare shell and put through a major body reno with all new frt fenders,chrome, new body mouldings,rubbers,wheels and tires, leather and carpets and so on. We are told that over thirty thousand dollars has been spent to upgrade this gorgeous sports car and it shows.The body and paint was done by the absolutely award winning Mercedes restoration specialists, "Coachwerks" who are renowned for doing the major jobs on 300SL's, Gullwings and roadsters. The sheetmetal is absolutely laser straight and the paint is like glass. The owner who commisioned the cosmetic restoration, died before the car was completed. Consequently, the car came direct from Coachwerks shop to us and has never been driven since the work was finished.
